THE BODY’S STORY - SOMATICS WORKSHOP

NOVEMBER 9, SUNDAY

  • THE BODY’S STORY
    a somatic inspired workshop
    with Allison Walton
    November 9, 2025
    12-3pm | $75

In this Sunday immersion, participants will have the opportunity to unearth the body’s story through somatic inquiry. Various modalities including imaginative visual mapping and embodied movement will be explored as a way to experience emotional buoyancy — a concept that will be contemplated throughout our time together.

We are walking imprints of our human experience and spend much of our lives recycling the stories that exist within the architecture of our minds. Yet, the body’s story holds the key to our own self discovery — through both the seen and felt & the unseen and unfelt.

Despite the complexities of our experiences that strive to keep us in the feedback loop of our own narrative / thoughts, may we have the courage to unearth these stories with a voracious appetite towards curiosity and self-inquiry. To fully sink our teeth into them in order to properly digest them. And in that process, extend grace and compassion towards ourselves as we weave a golden thread into something more anchored in truth.

Movement will be guided through the lens of yoga and the influences that have led and inspired our host, Allison, along her journey, with somatic techniques interwoven throughout so that there is plenty of room for both familiarity and curiosity. Moments that allow for — “isn’t that interesting.”

A somatic-based approach provides the architecture for this immersion, which is a general term with a vast array of meanings and offerings that are open to interpretation. The term ‘somatic’ (from the root word ‘soma’) translates from the Greek language, meaning ‘of the body’ — and therefore, the field of somatics explores the human experience from within the body.

The intention throughout this immersion is designed to —

be a soft and safe place for the body to land.

introduce somatic techniques that can seamlessly integrate into daily rhythms.

develop a more lush inner landscape by drawing upon one’s own imagination, curiosity and self-inquiry.

welcome language and creativity that allows us to color outside of the lines versus a more structured, linear, technical approach.

embody a greater sense of empathy and belonging within this complex human experience.

IN SEASON : AUTUMN

NOVEMBER 21, FRIDAY

  • 5 PM - 6:15 PM

    IN SEASON - AUTUMN YIN

A deeper dive into YIN during the middle/end of Autumn, the time of taking in what we need and letting go of what we don't. The element associated with this time is metal which focuses on clarity, what we value, setting up boundaries, expanding and strengthening our lungs, and more.

The lungs and large intestine are responsible for immunity (defending against pathogens) as well as taking in and conserving what we need, while letting go of anything that’s no longer serving us. This includes emotional baggage as well as physical matter .

  • YIN YOGA:

Puts stress on areas of the body not stretching. targets the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues – ligaments, joints, bones, the deep fascia networks of the body and the meridians. This is contrast to a Yang yoga practice such as Vinyasa yoga which targets the muscles.

Energetically, Yin yoga improves the energy flow, enhancing the flow of chi in the organs.

    Remember Yin practice principles:

    1. Come to your appropriate edge (no forcing, no pushing)

    2. Soften the outer muscles of the body

    3. Resolve to be still, without shifting position

    4. Hold for longer

We recommend bringing socks + sweater to get cozy.

  • KAT MCCRORY

To share what I have learned and in the process learn myself, forming us. I artfully craft each teaching experience weaving in who I am, what I have learned, recipes for joy, and imagination. I believe that through this practice we can practically, actively, and consciously move through ourselves, with ourselves, in order to know ourselves better and what it is that we need.

ON AUTUMN A KATONAH TRAINING

NOVEMBER 22, SATURDAY

  • 12 PM - 5 PM

EXPECT to dive deeper into Katonah theory, 5 Element theory specifically on AUTUMN and what it brings us, pranayama, postures, and more.

Learning about the TCM seasons and the 5-element theory can provide us with a good framework to use as a tool for better understanding ourselves, where we are, and what we need.

In this training, we will move through a small practice for the season, articulating its magic through the practicality of asanas, pranayama, and theory of each seasonal element.

This training serves as a continuing education course for teachers and counts as 5 hours towards pursuing a Katonah Yoga certification, however, it is not required that you be a teacher to participate.

  • TCM:

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) provides valuable insights for navigating seasonal transitions

TCM highlights the deep relationship between the human body and the natural world, particularly the rhythms of the seasons. In this system, each of the five seasons is associated with a specific organ system, as well as corresponding elements such as taste, color, and personality traits.

Much like yoga, TCM emphasizes balance, harmony, and the free flow of energy (Qi or prana) throughout the body. Integrating TCM principles into a yoga practice can help align the body with seasonal energies, support organ health, and enhance overall vitality. For example, choosing specific postures, breathwork, or meditative focus based on the current season’s element (like Wood in spring or Metal in autumn) can deepen the practice and promote seasonal wellness.

  • KAT MCCRORY

Kat has become fascinated with the seasons, especially from the lense and language of Katonah Yoga, her teachers, and TCM for the last couple of years. It has changed and impacted her mindset and practice immensely.

By exploring and teaching seasonal themes, she aims to offer others a meaningful framework for understanding the connection between the external world and their internal experience. In doing so, she hopes to help people gain insight into their inner landscape by observing the rhythms of the natural world around them.

I believe that through this practice, we can practically, actively, and consciously move through ourselves, with ourselves, in order to know ourselves better and what it is that we need.
